P.F. Candle Co. makes some of the best incense sticks in the game. That is not a controversial statement at this point - they have earned it. Hand-dipped in Los Angeles, charcoal-based, with phthalate-free fragrance oils that actually smell like their descriptions. Every pack comes with either 15 or 20 sticks (depending on the scent), and each stick burns for about an hour. That is 15-20 hours of scent per pack, which makes them one of the better values in home fragrance.
If you are used to Japanese incense and its subtlety, P.F.'s sticks will feel bolder. The charcoal base carries the fragrance differently - more smoke, more presence, more room-filling power. If you are used to cheap stick incense from a gas station, P.F. will show you what quality smells like. Either way, they are worth exploring.
We carry eleven scents. Here is what each one smells like, who it is for, and when to reach for it.
Amber & Moss - $11
Notes: moss and lavender on top, sage, orange, and lavandin in the middle, amber and musk at the base. This is P.F.'s outdoorsy, forest-floor scent - like a weekend in the mountains with sun coming through the canopy. The incense format adds smokiness that amplifies the earthy, mossy quality. It reads as green, warm, and grounding.
15 sticks per pack. Best for: living rooms, evenings, anyone who likes earthy, woody fragrances. This is one of P.F.'s signature scents, and the incense is arguably its best format.
Blonde Hinoki - $20
Notes: hinoki and cypress on top, cedar in the middle, vetiver and oakmoss at the base. A clean, bright, woody scent inspired by Japanese cypress. The charcoal base adds a thin veil of smoke that pairs beautifully with the pale wood note. It is meditative and calm without being sleepy.
20 sticks per pack. Best for: home offices, bedrooms, meditation. This is the incense to burn when you want to focus or decompress. If you like Studio Stockhome's Hinoki candle and want the incense equivalent, start here.
Golden Coast - $11
Notes: eucalyptus and sea salt on top, redwood in the middle, palo santo and sage at the base. Big Sur in stick form. The coastal, herbal quality translates perfectly to incense - the smoke adds a campfire-on-the-beach dimension that makes it even more atmospheric than the room spray or air freshener.
15 sticks per pack. Best for: spring and summer, morning sessions, anyone who wants their room to smell like the California coast. One of the most popular scents in the whole P.F. lineup.
Milky Santal - $20
Notes: sandalwood on top, vanilla and coconut in the middle, amber and musk at the base. Soft, creamy, and warm - like wrapping yourself in a cashmere blanket. This is P.F.'s take on sandalwood, and they went for the milky, gourmand side of the note rather than the dry, woody side. The vanilla and coconut make it almost dessert-like without crossing the line into sweet.
20 sticks per pack. Best for: bedrooms, evening wind-down, cold weather. If you find most woody scents too austere, Milky Santal is the welcoming alternative.
Ojai Lavender - $11
Notes: pixie tangerine, bergamot, and eucalyptus on top, lavender, rose, and lily in the middle, mint and red cedar at the base. This is not a one-note lavender. The citrus opening - especially that pixie tangerine - gives it a Southern California brightness that saves it from the standard "lavender equals relaxation" cliche. It smells like an actual lavender field in Ojai, not a sleep spray.
15 sticks per pack. Best for: bathrooms, bedrooms, stress relief. The eucalyptus and mint in the base add a cooling quality that is particularly nice in warm weather.
Pinon - $11
Notes: pine and cedar on top, smoke in the middle, vanilla and vetiver at the base. This one smells like the Southwest - pinon logs burning in a clay fireplace on a cold night in Santa Fe. The smoke note is prominent, which makes sense for a scent that is fundamentally about fire. The vanilla keeps it from going too dark, and the vetiver grounds it beautifully.
15 sticks per pack. Best for: fall and winter, living rooms, campfire lovers. If you like smoky, earthy scents, Pinon is one of the best expressions of that family in the incense format.
Plush Vetiver - $20
Notes: vetiver on top, suede and leather in the middle, cedar and smoke at the base. Dark, earthy, and sophisticated. This is vetiver at its moodiest - the suede and leather notes add a richness that makes it feel almost like wearing a fragrance rather than burning incense. It is one of the more complex scents in the P.F. lineup.
20 sticks per pack. Best for: evening, living rooms, studies. Compare it to Studio Stockhome's Vetyver candle for two very different approaches to the same root.
Smoked Cherry - $20
Notes: cherry on top, smoke and wood in the middle, vanilla and amber at the base. The most unexpected scent in the collection. Dark cherry meets wood smoke meets vanilla - it sounds like it should not work, but it does. The cherry reads as rich and ripe, not candy-sweet, and the smoke gives it a depth that keeps it serious.
20 sticks per pack. Best for: evening, date nights, anyone who wants something unusual. This is the one that surprises people. It is fruity and smoky and warm, and there is nothing else quite like it in our incense selection.
Teakwood & Tobacco - $11
Notes: orange and leather on top, black tea, pepper, and tobacco leaf in the middle, sandalwood, teak, patchouli, musk, and amber at the base. P.F.'s most popular scent, and the incense version leans into the smokier, more leathery side of the blend. The charcoal base amplifies the tobacco and pepper notes. If you love the Teakwood & Tobacco candle, the incense offers a more concentrated, intense version of the same experience.
15 sticks per pack. Best for: any room, any season. This is the crowd-pleaser. If someone asks "which incense should I start with?" this is usually the answer.
Tuberose Musk - $20
Notes: tuberose on top, musk and jasmine in the middle, blonde woods and amber at the base. The only purely floral incense in the P.F. lineup. The tuberose is bold and heady - a big, tropical white flower note that fills a room immediately. The musk and jasmine soften it, and the blonde woods in the base keep it from floating away entirely.
20 sticks per pack. Best for: bedrooms, bathrooms, spring. If you love floral scents and want to experience them in the incense format, this is where to start.
Wild Herb Tonic - $11
Notes: lavender and mint on top, basil and rosemary in the middle, cedar and eucalyptus at the base. The freshest, most aromatic scent in the collection. It smells like walking through a wild herb garden barefoot - cool, green, and alive. The basil and rosemary give it a culinary quality that is unusual for incense and very welcome.
15 sticks per pack. Best for: morning, kitchens, home offices. This is the incense equivalent of opening all the windows and letting the breeze in. If you lean toward herbal, green scents, Wild Herb Tonic might be your favorite in the entire P.F. catalog.
How to Choose
If you are starting from zero, pick based on your scent family. Woody and earthy? Amber & Moss, Pinon, or Blonde Hinoki. Warm and cozy? Teakwood & Tobacco or Milky Santal. Fresh and green? Golden Coast or Wild Herb Tonic. Floral? Tuberose Musk. Something unexpected? Smoked Cherry.
The $11 packs (15 sticks) are perfect for testing. Grab two or three different scents and rotate them over a few weeks. You will quickly learn which ones you keep reaching for and which ones sit in the drawer.
