There is a stretch of Highway 1 between Carmel and Big Sur where the eucalyptus trees thin out and the Pacific opens up on your left and wild sage covers the hillside on your right. The air smells like salt, green herbs, and warm dirt. P.F. Candle Co. bottled that specific moment and called it Golden Coast.
The scent profile is eucalyptus and sea salt up front, redwood in the middle, and palo santo with sage on the dry down. It reads fresh and aromatic without being sharp - like coastal air with something earthy underneath it. If Teakwood & Tobacco is P.F.'s cozy indoor scent, Golden Coast is the one that makes your room feel like it has open windows even when it does not.
Who This Scent Is For
Golden Coast is for people who want their home to smell clean and natural without going full "spa day." It has more character than a generic eucalyptus candle because the sea salt adds a mineral edge and the palo santo gives it warmth on the base. It is not sweet, not floral, not heavy - just green and bright with enough depth to stay interesting.
It works year-round but really shines in spring and summer. If you lean toward fresh and herbal scent families, this belongs on your radar.
Incense Sticks - $20
The Golden Coast incense sticks are the standout of this line. Each pack includes 20 charcoal-based sticks, hand-dipped in Los Angeles, with about an hour of burn time per stick. That is roughly 20 hours of scent for $20.
What makes these work so well is that the smokiness of burning incense pairs naturally with Golden Coast's eucalyptus-sage-palo santo profile. The scent already has an outdoorsy, slightly smoky quality - the incense format just amplifies that. It smells like a coastal campfire in the best possible way.
Light one during a morning stretch or while you are reading on the couch with the windows cracked. The scent fills a room quickly and leaves a pleasant, herbal note behind after the stick burns out.
Room & Linen Spray - $22
A 7.75oz bottle in amber glass with a fine-mist nozzle. The spray version of Golden Coast lands brighter and more immediate than the incense - you get a burst of eucalyptus and sea salt that settles into the sage and palo santo within a few minutes.
It is body-safe and water-based, so you can spritz it on pillows, towels, curtains, or even yourself. The scent lasts about an hour in open air and longer on fabric. A couple of sprays on your bathroom towels before guests come over does more than any scented plug-in ever could.
If you already use the room spray format as part of your home fragrance routine, Golden Coast is one of the best scents P.F. makes for it. Fresh enough for a bathroom or kitchen, interesting enough for a living room.
Car Air Freshener - $12
Same scent, smallest format. A phthalate-free fragrance blend on recycled paper pulp. Hang it from your mirror, clip it to a vent, or stash it in your console. It lasts two to four weeks and a gentle squeeze refreshes the scent when it starts to fade.
Golden Coast is arguably the best P.F. Candle Co. scent for a car freshener. The eucalyptus and sea salt read clean and bright without being overpowering in a small, enclosed space. No one wants to sit in a car that smells like a candle store - this smells more like you just drove through Big Sur with the windows down.
What About a Golden Coast Candle?
P.F. Candle Co. does not currently make a candle in this scent, which surprises people. But if you want a Golden Coast candle, Candlefy makes one that captures the same coastal California spirit - eucalyptus, sea salt, woodsy warmth. It is a different brand and a slightly different interpretation, but it scratches the same itch. We carry it at the shop if you want to smell it side by side with the P.F. versions.
Where to Start
Start with the incense sticks. They are the best expression of what Golden Coast is about - that smoky, herbal, coastal quality comes through perfectly in the incense format. At $20 for 20 sticks, you get plenty of chances to live with the scent before deciding to build it out.
From there, add the room spray for quick refreshes in rooms where you do not want to light something, and toss the car freshener in your glove box for good measure.
You can find the full Golden Coast line in our home fragrance collection. And if you want to compare it against other P.F. scents like Teakwood & Tobacco or Ojai Lavender, book a scent flight and smell them all in person.
