We sell a lot of candles. Like, a lot. And because we carry five different brands under one roof, we get asked the same question constantly: which ones are actually the best?
Fair question. Not every soy candle is created equal, even when they're all made from quality ingredients. Wax blend, fragrance load, wick type, vessel size - these details matter more than most people realize. After burning through hundreds of candles over the past year (occupational hazard), here are our honest picks for the best soy candles in 2026.
What Makes a Great Soy Candle
Before we get into specifics, a quick note on what we're evaluating. A great soy candle does three things well: it burns cleanly and evenly, it throws scent effectively into a room, and the scent itself is actually good - not synthetic, not one-dimensional, not headache-inducing.
All five brands we carry use soy-based wax (some blended with coconut or beeswax), cotton wicks, and phthalate-free fragrance oils. So the baseline quality is high across the board. The differences come down to scent profiles, throw strength, burn time, and price. If you want to understand more about what goes into a clean-burning candle, our soy candle guide breaks it all down.
P.F. Candle Co.: Best for Classic, California-Inspired Scents
P.F. Candle Co. makes 7.2oz soy candles in their signature amber glass jars. They burn for 40-50 hours, and the scent throw is moderate - present without being aggressive. These are candles for people who want their space to smell good without being able to pinpoint exactly where the scent is coming from.
Top pick: Pinon ($24). Pine and cedar layered with smoke, vanilla, and vetiver. It smells like a Southwest evening by the fireplace, and it's been one of our most consistent sellers since we opened. The smokiness is subtle enough to work year-round, not just in winter.
Runner-up: Teakwood & Tobacco ($24). P.F. calls this "the O.G." and they're not wrong. Orange and leather on top, black tea and tobacco in the middle, sandalwood and teak at the base. It's warm, woody, and works in basically any room. There's a reason it's one of the best-selling candles in the country.
Also great: Sweet Grapefruit ($24). If you lean toward brighter scents, this is the one. Ripe grapefruit with lily of the valley and coriander blossom. Clean, fresh, and energizing without smelling like a cleaning product.

Dilo: Best for Range and Depth
Dilo is the brand that surprises people. They offer the widest range of sizes and price points - from $12 amber glass candles (3.5oz) all the way up to their 10oz SHADES collection ($36) and 8.5oz elsewhere collection ($32). All soy wax, cotton wicks, hand-poured in Philadelphia.
Top pick: Hinoki Sesame ($32, 8.5oz elsewhere). Bergamot and lemon peel open into sea salt, incense smoke, and sesame seeds over a base of hinoki, red cedar, and musk. This candle is genuinely unique - it smells like nothing else on our shelves. Meditative without being boring, complex without being confusing. The throw fills a room beautifully.
Best value: No. 04 Sandalwood ($12, 3.5oz amber glass). At $12, this is the most affordable way to get a genuinely great candle. Lemon peel and bergamot open into hemp and cedar over a base of sandalwood, amber, and vetiver. It punches well above its price point in terms of scent quality. Burns 20-25 hours.
Best for strong throw: Palo Santo ($32, 8.5oz elsewhere). Black pepper and clove meet palo santo and lavender over patchouli, amber, and cedarwood. The throw on this one is strong - it fills medium to large rooms and lingers even after you blow it out. If you like your candles to really announce themselves, this is your pick. For more on what palo santo actually smells like, check out our full guide.
The SHADES upgrade: If you want even more throw and burn time, the SHADES collection (10oz, $36, 60-hour burn) comes in a gorgeous matte glass vessel. The Tobacco + Cedar SHADES is a customer favorite - cinnamon and vanilla leading into tobacco leaf and cedar.
Broken Top Candle Co.: Best Value per Ounce
Broken Top makes 9oz soy candles for $26, hand-poured in Bend, Oregon. That's roughly $2.89 per ounce - the best value among the brands we carry. They also get about 50 hours of burn time, and the scent throw tends to run on the stronger side.
Top pick: Coconut Sandalwood ($26, 9oz). Lime and coconut on top, papaya blossom and sea salt in the middle, cedar and sandalwood at the base. Strong throw that fills medium to large rooms. This is the candle that makes people think of beach vacations, and it's a perennial best seller.
Best for freshness: Fresh Squeezed ($26, 9oz). Bergamot and blood orange with grapefruit and cedar. If you want a candle that wakes up a room - kitchen, bathroom, anywhere that needs a reset - this is the one. Bold, bright, and clean.
Best for woodsy vibes: Sitka Woodland ($26, 9oz). Dry gin and spruce over cedar, red currant, and balsam. It smells like chopping wood outside a Pacific Northwest cabin, and the throw is strong enough to fill a living room. One of the most "outdoorsy" candles we've ever carried.
Worth mentioning: Cranberry Orange ($36, 16oz). This is their biggest candle - 16oz with an 80-hour burn time. Tart cranberry and zesty citrus balanced with warm spices. It's seasonal by design, but honestly, it works year-round if you like that tart-sweet profile.
Candlefy: Best for Coastal and Place-Inspired Scents
Candlefy makes 8oz soy blend candles in amber jars for $25. Their whole concept is place-inspired scents - Big Sur, Malibu, Napa Valley, Tahoe - which makes them great gifts and conversation pieces. The throw is medium to strong, and the scents lean clean and approachable.
Top pick: Santal Noir ($25, 8oz). Black pepper and bergamot into sandalwood and leather over smoky oud and musk. This is the most sophisticated candle in the Candlefy lineup - dark, complex, and very different from their coastal scents. It works beautifully in a living room or bedroom.
Best coastal scent: Big Sur ($25, 8oz). Sea salt and eucalyptus, redwood and sage, driftwood and musk. It captures the Big Sur coastline in a way that doesn't feel cheesy or artificial. If you live near the ocean (or wish you did), this is the candle.
Best for relaxation: Zen Garden ($25, 8oz). Mandarin and lemon verbena over white tea and bamboo with cedarwood and soft musk. It's a spa candle that doesn't smell like a spa - more like a quiet Japanese garden. Great for the bedroom or a reading nook.
Studio Stockhome: Best Premium Soy Candle
Studio Stockhome sits at the top of our price range at $38. They use a soy, coconut, and beeswax blend with cotton wicks. The extra cost gets you a richer wax blend, beautiful cold throw (they smell amazing even unlit), and scent profiles that feel more refined than most candles at any price.
Top pick: Santalum ($38). Bergamot and cardamom on top, sandalwood and rose in the middle, amber and vanilla at the base. This is the most complete sandalwood candle we carry - creamy, warm, exotic, and layered in a way that rewards attention.
Best for meditation: Hinoki ($38). Hinoki and yuzu opening into cypress and green tea over cedarwood and vetiver. If you've ever walked into a Japanese-style spa and felt instantly calm, this is that scent in candle form. Studio Stockhome's version is more austere and traditional compared to Dilo's Hinoki Sesame - both are excellent, just different moods.
Best for clean freshness: Cotton ($38). Ozone and lemon over cotton blossom and lily with musk and powder at the base. It smells like sun-dried linens, and it's the closest thing to a "clean laundry" scent that doesn't tip into artificial territory. Great for bathrooms and guest rooms.

How to Pick the Right One for You
If you're buying your first "nice" candle, start with Broken Top or a Dilo amber glass. Low price, high quality, good scent throw. If you know what you like and want something more refined, Studio Stockhome is worth the upgrade. And if you're shopping for a gift, Candlefy's place-inspired concept makes their candles easy to personalize.
The honest truth is that all five brands are good. We wouldn't carry them if they weren't. The differences are in personality, not quality.
